Practice-oriented diagnosis of condenser bushings through capacitance and dissipation factor measurements

Learn how to carry out the measurement correctly and how to interpret the measurement results correctly interpret the measurement results correctly

Your motivation

  • Are you working in the field of diagnostics of feedthroughs?
  • Do you know the situation where you are not sure whether a capacitance and dissipation factor measurement of a bushing has been performed correctly?
  • Or are you simply interested in becoming familiar with the interpretation of measurement results?
  • Perhaps you already have experience with classical measurement at nominal frequency (50 Hz) but would still like to learn how to interpret the results from voltage-dependent (from 2 kV to 12 kV) and frequency-dependent measurements (from 15 Hz to 400 Hz)?

Then this training is the right choice for you!

Here you have the opportunity to build up know-how. For the training, we draw on the knowledge gained from many years of practical experience of more than 25 years with capacitance and dissipation factor measurements of controlled bushings.

Aims of the training

  • You will be familiarized with the different types of feedthroughs.
  • You will learn which anomalies or types of faults can occur in a feedthrough and how to diagnose them using electrical measurements.
  • You will be taught all important knowledge for a correct execution of a capacitance and dissipation factor measurement on the basis of practical measurements.
  • Learn the theoretical basics that must be mastered in order to interpret the measurement results.
  • With the help of practical exercises, you will learn about the most common anomalies (e.g. measurement errors, types of errors, external influences) of a measurement with regard to the interpretation.

Training content

Module A:

Introduction to the implementation technology

  • Explanation of the different types of construction (OIP, RBP, RIP, RIS)
  • Illustration of the anomalies or types of errors that can occur.

Module B:

Introduction to capacity and dissipation factor measurement of a realization

  • Presentation of common measuring devices and accessories

(e.g. clamps and test leads)

  • Explanation of the functional work of the measuring instruments

Module C:

Practical tips for carrying out a capacitance and dissipation factor measurement

  • Emphasis on on-site measurement
  • Explaining the differences between a measurement of a built-in and a non-built-in bushing
  • Showing a correct measurement setup
  • Guidance on how to eliminate possible external influences that can lead to falsification of the measurement results

Module D:

Interpretation of measurement results

  • Teaching the basics necessary for the interpretation
  • Explanation of how external influences (e.g. temperature, contamination on the surface of the insulator, impedance of the transformer) can affect the measurement results
  • Discussion of the most common anomalies (e.g. measurement errors, types of errors, external influences) of a measurement by means of practical exercises
  • Possibility of discussion and interpretation of measurement results you have brought with you
